Recap

Fashion is inspiring, and the fashion you see at galas is usually quite a delight. While there are many galas, parties, and charity events in Dallas, I have to say that rarely I have been involved in one so precious as Fashion Stars For A Cause benefiting The Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas. With Yvonne Crum at its helm, a dear, but nonetheless commanding leader, she alongside the fiercely amazing Carolyn Tillery work tirelessly with Margie Wright, the Executive Director of the Suicide and Crisis Center to help relay the message to as many people as they can, #youmatter.

The message of Fashion Stars and The Suicide and Crisis Center is one of hope, telling others who struggle with suicidal tendencies that they are important.  Every life matters.  There is also support for the family members of suicide victims and a 24 hour hotline to take calls to offer help and hope to those in need. Another important mission for The Suicide and Crisis Center is to remind all of us not to turn a blind eye to those around you.  You never know if you are saving a life simply by asking if someone is ok.  A strong message to remind us of the value we place on others and awareness of what is going on in the lives of those around us.

Undoubtedly one of the most impactful events in the Dallas social calendar,  and the ONLY fundraiser for The Suicide and Crisis Center, Fashion Stars For A Cause has a special and empowering effect on attendees, which one might not expect given the subject matter being suicide.  The evening started with a cocktail reception, and after everyone made their way to their seats, emcee and suicide survivor Terry Bentley Hill, welcomed Executive Director Margie Wright to speak.  A fabulous fashion show featuring ladies of Dallas who have a strong platform, and who worked tirelessly to spread the word of the Fashion Stars Gala and the mission followed.  These ladies gave of their time and effort to bring light to this worthy cause, and graced the runway with beautiful gowns (see more below).  A seated dinner followed, as well as a raffle, which was won by Tori Guta Serpa, founder of the Brit Rose Foundation.  She was delighted to win $5,000 worth of fine jewelry from J. Pacetti,  dinner by Royal Chef Darren McGrady, as well as a custom gown from Binzario Couture.  The evening’s highlight was keynote speaker Brian Cuban, author of Shattered Image and The Addicted Lawyer.  He shared his story and how he has overcome so much to be an inspiration to so many with humor and sincerity.

Design

I had the pleasure of walking the Fashion Stars 2018 runway in a dress I designed at my studio.  A truly bespoke gown that was designed and handmade by me and my staff.  Fashion is in the details and a look for an event like this must be curated with care.  Beautiful trims were hand stitched, and each aspect of the gown was custom designed, which was such a pleasure for me.

Knowing what and how to finish off an outfit such as this for a special evening is the key. It is always such a pleasure for me to wear something that reminds me of someone or something I love to an event. My BAHZ earrings by Britt Harless Z were the perfect finishing touch.

A quick mom/daughter stop to my friends at the Dior makeup counter to get ready for the evening ♥️

What a delight walking this amazing Fashion Stars runway with my 14 year old daughter, Isabella turned out to be.  Isabella is slated to be an ambassador for 8-14 year olds next year to help bring awareness about suicide and the prevention of it with a message of hope to her peers. Bella feels strongly about letting people in her age bracket know how important they are, and that they matter.  Her poise, confidence, and beauty were astonishingly beyond her years throughout the evening.

Truly, there is some pretty amazing fashion that walks the Fashion Stars stage by ladies who truly are engaged with making a difference and making an impact with their strong voice and platforms.  The beautiful gowns that highlight the stage carried by graceful women who are hard-working business women, entrepreneurs, wives, mothers and so much more is the highlight of the evening.
