The Fielder Report – Ladies Who Slay The Real Way ?

THE FIELDER REPORT

Introducing Ladies Who Slay the Real Way

A weekly series about women entrepreneurs coming together to be the change, in Dallas and beyond.

By Abra Liberman Garrett

Sometimes it seems that our current cultural climate is such that snarkiness is celebrated, and adversarial relationships between women are accepted, even encouraged, for the sake of entertainment. Kathy Fielder is determined to alter that optic and shine a spotlight on successful, industrious women who are working hard to invest in their jobs, communities, families, and each other.

“I am an entrepreneur by nature,” Kathy explains, “I have had seven companies since I was 22. But I also make sure I have time to give back to the causes I believe in, and support my family, and my friends. I don’t understand the idea that women knock each other down – I LIVE for my girlfriends, my family, and a culture where people support and admire each other. Their successes are my successes too. I really believe we are getting to a point where we are on the verge of a cultural shift and women who are strong, supportive, hardworking role models are going to be the next big thing.”

While Kathy has made a living out of the idea that a beautiful space to dwell in helps to create a harmonious and peaceful life, design is not the only thing that she is passionate about. Running her company, dealing with vendors, merchants, clients, and production requires great business acumen and just as many “right brain” as “left brain” sensibilities. Her industry is competitive, and like many, it can be quite cutthroat – but Kathy has always maintained that by working hard and trusting your gut, there is no reason anyone ever has to compromise their principals. “Running a company is hard, hard work,” Kathy says emphatically “it is a lot like motherhood in that it is hugely challenging and hugely rewarding all at once. My goal is never to come across like it is easy or I have it all figured out. I am human. I have insecurities and doubt myself at times. But one thing I have learned how to do is surround myself with really good people. People who are supportive, kind, wise, and frankly, super fun too! Because you know what? No matter how successful you may be – if you are not enjoying yourself then what is the point? So, these great people I have encircled myself with, my girlfriends in particular, are the motivation for this project!”

The project Kathy is referring to is an upcoming series she has created for her blog that will focus on a group of Dallas women who are making a big impact in this city daily, as entrepreneurs, mothers, philanthropists, and friends. “Our city is full of dynamic, hardworking, cool ladies – several of whom I am proud to call my friends. And I am not saying we don’t have drama in our lives, but the kind of trials we deal with are born out of things like challenges at work, concerns about our kids and families, and the normal curveballs life throws at you! And our relationships with each other is what helps to ground us, sustain us, and get us through! I just think it is high time we focus on women who lift each other up, who get things done, and who are just doing their best to contribute while we navigate our crazy lives. Doesn’t that sound great?” We agree, Kathy – here is to ladies who slay the real way.
