Modern Girls Guide to China & Crystal

Have grandma’s China lying around? Some vintage crystal that you’re not sure how to modernize? Look no further! We have all the inspo on creating a fabulously desisgned table with pieces you might not expect. KF is an avid collector and inherited lots of great pieces from loved ones as well. Her love of mixing them to make a gorgeous tablescape got us inspired to share some of her inspo. We asked Kathy how she gets inspired to style, and she told us, “The key is mixing the old with the new. Create your own uniquely tailored table settings by mixing and matching favorite pieces, much like the way you design a beautiful room.”

China

Pottery Barn

Select the theme of your party and match your place settings to the theme. Whether it’s boho or classic glamour, you don’t have to go crazy to have a beautifully put together table. Fresh flowers and greenery are always gorgeous and liven up any area. Antique china, paired with modern crystal and flatware create a classically elegant ambience.

Mix it up with an array of different pieces. Not everything has to match and coordinate. Throw in bright colors, mix and match different flatware and glassware, and add in some cut flowers to finish it off with modern, vintage style.

If you have newer pieces that you adore, make it feel timely and curated by adding in a few vintage pieces. Mixing Anthropologie or Pottery Barn with antique pieces gives a modern, eclectic feel that is refined and eye-catching.

Have 8 antique bread plates you love? Mix and match! Add them in with different pattern to create a well balanced and beautiful tablescape. There is no point in having pieces you love and rarely use. Life is short and one of KF’s biggest rules is to enjoy what surrounds you and makes you happy. Pull it out and style away!

All different patterns but the same color scheme unifies your table while giving it major depth and interest. Different antique glasses all styled around the table have a chic vibe. Find different plates, flatware, glasses that you love from all over, and unite them through color!

Crystal

We love a vintage crystal glass. It truly gives that Old Hollywood glamorous feel! There are so many ways to incorporate crystal and glassware onto your table, so why not have a little fun and enjoy.

Get a little creative and pick glasses in a fun color or shape. They add interest to your place setting, and the saturated tones look amazing and add depth and dimension.

Love Bourbon or Scotch? Throw it in a fun and flirty glass to give it extra punch! It looks gorgeous on any tablescape and makes drinking whatever it may be a little more fun..

Crave an elegant, unified look that’s more classically styled? Soften the look with refined patterns that are unified and striking. Add monograms and classic floral like orchids. Waterford crystal is always an elegant choice.

Southern Living

Going for something a little more unique? Every spot gets the same amount of glassware, but all with different patterns and colors. Different colored plates and glassware that have a similar pattern or print is one of our favorite ways to give a table appeal. Pick one uniting piece such as a charger or dinner plate to tie it all together. Adding in an anchoring glass or plate creates the base you need for a unified look, and you can build from there. Choose your fave metallic and incorporate it in flatware, glasses and napkin holders for the perfect finishing touch.
