Ladies Who Slay the Real Way – Installment One

Lea Fisher and the Art of Introspection
In a case of art imitating life, Lea Fisher’s journey to be where she is today has been very similar to the paintings she creates: layered, thought-provoking, multi-faceted, and, ultimately, beautiful. Growing up in a family recovering from mental illness and addiction, Lea recognized from an early age that self-discovery and self awareness were to be crucial components when it came to her path of healing and forgiveness. But, as it can, life also led her to where it appeared she was needed – and needed to be – in her excursion.
After years in medical sales, Lea decided to shift gears and she returned to school for a graduate degree in counseling. As part of her internal exploration she began painting with JD Miller (whom she’d eventually marry) who founded the “Reflectionism” movement. Reflectionism combines a philosophy of art and a style of painting that is grounded in Asian mindfulness, meditation, and holds that Infinite Intelligence is everywhere, and true human selfhood is divine, that divine thought is a force for good and that “right thinking” has a healing effect. “
This was a serendipitous undertaking, for soon Lea’s father would fall ill with cancer and she’d call on this mindfulness training to help get through. Sadly, this was not her only encounter with cancer and leukemia. Over time friends and other family members with whom Lea was close were also diagnosed. It was a very challenging time for Lea and her family, but it did inspire her to start volunteering for the LLS.
Today Lea and her husband run the wildly popular Samuel Lynne Galleries, where their art is exhibited and sold. Additionally, Lea has turned her past pain into passion, working presently as one of the contenders for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Woman of the Year Award.
To Lea, there is an element of harmonic convergence in her life. Her art allows her a platform to connect. Her education in counseling provides her the insight to help others. And the losses Lea has experienced have inspired her to be a catalyst for change, raising funds and awareness to help others. We are so proud to feature Lea as one of our Women Who Slay The Real Way. There are many reasons to be proud to support LLS’s efforts. For instance, more than 40% of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA between 2000 and 2015 were first approved for blood cancer patients. And many of these LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but also are now approved to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers, and noncancerous diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.
