Our recommendations? Jefferson’s Ocean because it’s easy and smooth. The perfect fit for someone just starting to get into Bourbon. Weller is a good choice, and it’s considered a pretty standard bourbon and more on the affordable side. Basil Hayden’s Two by Two, although it is considered a rye, it’s a bit spicier with peppery notes and has a little more depth. Yellow Rose, made in Texas, is smooth with sweeter notes and Kathy’s personal favorite at our tasting. Yes! A sweet little gift for your mate. Grab 3 or 4 and set up a bourbon tasting. Your thoughtfulness will go a long way to make him smile.
Kathy’s husband ( a big bourbon connoisseur) gave a few recommendations. Hechiceros, The Balvenie 12 Year, Willett, Bib & Tucker 12 Year, and Wolcott “Special Release” are a few of his fave picks right now. While a bit on the pricier side, these bourbons are deletable and have greater depth on the palette. Aging is a big part of bourbon, same as wine, so those extra years do create something special to warrant the extra price tag. “Sometimes these are a bit harder to find, snag a bottle when you can”, was Jeromy’s recommendation.
