Turn an Inexpensive Dress Into a Red Carpet Ensemble

This past weekend, our EIC, Kathy Fielder, hosted the red carpet for Krewe De Etoiles Mardi Gras in Dallas and while we love getting all dressed up in fancy dresses, we’ve learned you don’t always have to spend a fortune to look good! Affordable gowns DO exist and can look like you spent big bucks on them. With the right accessories, makeup, and hair, you can look effortlessly glam and fabulous.

Kathy’s Hollywood glam look from the red carpet is timeless and chic. Kathy took a $200 dress and turned it into a million dollar ensemble.

Here, we’ve created two red carpet outfits (one modeling Kathy’s look) and another in black  – both for under $200! Accessories are key, and these don’t have to break the bank either. Let your gown speak for itself and your makeup and hair complement your outfit. Word of advice: you are wearing the dress – don’t let the dress wear you!

This nude colored dress is sleek and sophisticated chic. Neutrals always look more expensive than they are, which is why it’s the perfect ensemble to dress up.

A fur cape is a classic piece that instantly elevates your look to the next level. It photographs well, and definitely ups the glam quotient of your outfit.

Up your shoe game with these silver heels. They’re delicate yet add a pop of sizzle to your look. Plus, this style looks great with a gown that has a slit.

With this neutral look, a smokey eye and red lip looks amazing and definitely pops on the red carpet. These stunning art deco diamond earrings add the perfect finishing touch.

You can never go wrong with a sleek black dress on any red carpet. This gown comes up to only $175, and with the right accent pieces, it’s a total babe look!

Throw in a stunning touch with a sequin and beaded clutch like this one that makes a statement.

Go for a strappy black heel that elongates your leg (especially if your dress has a slit up the side).

Add a choker to your look for dramatic effect and instant style. A choker breaks up your outfit in just the right way to show off your best assets.  There is something so stylish and alluring about the classic choker.
